After a while, I was finally able to get into the venue and make my way to my seat. The auditorium is a beautiful sight to behold. It’s festooned with gold leaf and ornate carvings and isn’t too dissimilar from a palace ballroom.

" The theatre was even listed on the National Historic Register at one time. Although it still stands there today, it has not been used since 1934. This theatre was once very popular and had many different acts coming to perform at this venue. The Savoy Theatre opened in 1912 with a performance by The Gaiety Girls. Designed by architect Louis H. Asbury, the theater was known as one of the few “atmospheric theaters” in the United States. One such piece of architecture included large pillars that were constructed to look like palm trees.

The Savoy Theatre was the first black theatre in Harlem. It originally opened around 1884 as a cinder works factory that didn't last long before becoming a venue for various entertainment. He hoped to pay homage to Britain's Savoy Hotel and its famous music hall Ol'Cook Dooker.

The Savoy Theatre is one of the oldest buildings on King Street. Built in 1890, it sits on the corner of King and James, just east of the downtown core, and it's only a block away from Memorial Arena.
